In India there are at present five systems (1) Govt.Recognized system, (2) Govt. Restricted System (3) Govt. Derecognized system (4) Govt. rejected systems and (5) system of medicines not even considered for discussion of recognition. Any systems prevailing and practicing in any part of the world is not your concern.
Whereas the following medical systems are the only recognized systems by the Government of India, State Governments and Union territory in India vide Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. Of India Order No. R.14015/25/96-U&H(R) (Pt) dated the 25th November 2003 enacted and promulgated under the Honorable Delhi High court Order. No other systems are recognized. Practicing any other system is an offence in India. The eligibility to practice the system is shown against the system. The degree must be from a recognized institution.

3. Homoeopathy : The Minimum qualification prescribed to practice is BHMS
4. Siddha : The Minimum qualification prescribed to practice is BSMS
5 .Unani : The Minimum qualification prescribed to practice is BUMS
6. Yoga & Naturopathy: The Minimum qualification prescribed to practice is BYNS
Only these medical graduates of six systems can prefix Doctor with their name apart from the doctorate conferred on an individual by a recognized University. The eligibility and qualifications to practice any of the above system were confirmed by Ministry of health Lok Sabha and Central information Commission. Practicing any other system is an offence punishable under various sections of IPC and consumer protection Act.
All the clinics are to be registered under Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2007. Whoever carries on a clinical establishment without registration under this act shall, on conviction for first offence, he punishable with a fine up to fifty thousand rupees, for second offence with fine which may extend to two lakh rupees and for any subsequent offence with fine which may extend to five lakh rupees.
II. GOVT.RESTRICTED SYSTEM OF MEDICINES are shown below in (i) and (ii)
Like restricted holidays are restricted to special community or religion, these two systems of therapies are restricted to medical graduates of six systems. These two therapies are not recognized but recommended to be qualified as modes of therapy to be practiced only by the Medical graduates appropriately trained namely in Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy.
Health Ministry has revealed that only registered medical practitioners could provide therapeutic services for disciplines likeacupuncture and hypnotherapy considered to be mode(s) of therapy can only be provided through certificate courses for registered medical experts, who can utilize that knowledge in their regular practice, be it connected to allopathy, ayurved or homoeopathy, in their order No. R.14015/25/96-U&H(R) (Pt) dated the 25th November 2003.
Medical graduate having the following additional qualification is classified as appropriately trained.
MS, M.Sc, MPhil or PhD from unrecognized or online self-styled universities in India is legally liable under various sections of IPC. (And consumer Protection Act if they have charged any fees). Any Foreign qualifications including clinical psychology or social work whether residential / correspondence / or honorary have no legal validity in India if it is not recognized by UGC or Rehabilitation Council of India.
III. GOVT. DeRECOGNIZED SYSTEM OF MEDICINES are shown below in (i) and (ii)
These systems of medicine were once recognized by Govt of India and all State Governments. There were or still there are about 700 colleges and a few universities of this system. After derecognition all the approved colleges and Universities of these systems are closed down. The doctors of Electropathy and Electro Homoeopathy were removed from their Service and now they cannot prefix doctor. They filed a petition in Delhi High Court. As per the Honorable Delhi High Court Orders CWP No.4015/96 & OM NO.8468/97, dated 18.11.98, which has inter-alia, directed the Central / State Govts., to consider making legislation to grant of licenses to the existing and new institutes etc. to control & regulate the various "unrecognized" streams of alternative medicines and also to give adequate publicity through media informing public about the 'Respondents' and similar other institutes for being recognized by the Govt. & affiliated with any of the Councils.
Now Electropathy & Electro homoeopathy Status is DERECOGNIZED IV. GOVT. REJECTED SYSTEM OF MEDICINES are shown below in 1 to 10
The following therapies specifically came for scrutiny of the committee and they ruled these cannot be recognized or practiced by any one. Hence stands rejected. This is a law passed by Parliament.

A medical graduate has to practice this along with his system only and not as separate System. Certificate from Sri Lanka or China not accepted.
- Hypnotherapy: The Ministry of Health, Govt. of India has confirmed through Central Information Commission that the qualification prescribed to practice Hypnotherapy is (1) MBBS (2) Clinical Psychology (3) degree in Psychology (3) degree in recognized Alternative Medicines BAMS, BHMS, BNYS, BSMS, BUMS or (4) B.Sc (Nursing) with an additional qualification in Psychology from a recognized University. A medical graduate has to practice this along with his system only and not as separate System. Foreign degree and quackery degree not accepted.

- M. Sc.(Psychology) M.A (Psychology) M.Phil (Psychology) courses of University of Rajasthan, Banaras Hindu University, Bharathidassan University, Bangalore University or any other recognized University in India.
- M.Phil (Clinical Psychology) of The Rehabilitation Council of India.
